Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge XV

Winter has arrived and the prep for this year's Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge is underway. Having joined the lists again I am needing to find 500 points of 2, 10, 15 and 28mm miniatures to paint between December 21st and March 21st.

Decisions are not always the easiest of things to make and can often change how the challenge runs. The initial running list includes:

  • 2mm Punic Wars
  • 10mm DAK for O Group
  • 15mm Romano Brits for ADLG
  • 15mm Samurai
  • 28mm Romano Brits for SAGA
  • 28mm Dwarves for Kings of War
  • 28mm Hundred Years War for SAGA
  • 28mm Christian Spanish

There are more options, however, I'm looking to finalise a set list and point values from the above with a schedule to ensure that there is time to complete sections across the Challenge and to keep things interesting throughout.

Cheers for now

All Hell Let Loose 20

Final submission for this year's AHPC below:

Marder IIs and Sd Kfz 10/4 with 20mm AA all from Pendraken Miniatures.

There are decals in the post for identification purposes however if being honest at 10mm scale not sure the need is really there.

They are all painted up from a panzer grey undercoat to build up layers from dark to light. Takes a bit longer and won't necessarily use this style for all the models in this group but its rewarding. Oil washes would/will be much quicker and are a likely option for the next batch.

The Pz IV is digitally printed model from last year and no idea who the files are from, probably on the internet of everything...

Cheers for now

Back to the Brushes 381

The first completed figures for 2024 will be coming shortly after appearing in AHPC IV this weekend.

This has created a small space on the painting table to allow the D.A.K. for 'O' Group to be started.

All of the miniatures in this project are from Pendraken Miniatures 10mm range and have incredible detail for small figures. Too much detail but that's another story for another day.

For no reason other than they were there, the first group of models is a pair of Marder IIIs.

After the first session, already looking at ways to speed up the painting of these figures as they started using a painting scheme for 1/56 scale models. Way, way too much depth in painting. The main thing is that the models have enough character to distinguish them from Allied models on the table, the RAL colour reference isn't the driving force here.

The second pair, still in their basic Pz Grey primer will Match slightly later colour schemes for Sicilian and Italian campaigns. Again, working to table top distances.

Will be posting more work in progress pics from the ongoing Wars of the Roses project ongoing just now in the next few days as well.

Cheers for now.

  • 28mm Late Crusaders for SAGA
  • 28mm Late Romans for ADLG

Let's see how things roll.

30 Days 30 Miniatures Painting Challenge September 2022

The first of 2022 has been completed and the bench mark has been set at 31 miniatures.

For the 30 Days 30 Miniatures Painting Challenge there is no theme to this, just to paint and complete 30 miniatures regardless of their starting condition or size.

The outline of the challenge is detailed below, however the main point being to have fun with your hobby.

  • To paint 30 figures of all shapes and sizes in 30 days
  • The figures can be partly painted at the start as the main point is to complete figures that have been forgotten
  • Basing is not necessary to count as completed
  • Any scale is good
  • Too have fun
  • The end date is set by your start date - 30th September will be the end date of this challenge
  • To post updates as often as possible
  • Lastly to show a roundup post with a group picture of everything.

Hope that you will find this interesting.

Cheers for now

Back to the Brushes 350

As September starts here is the last of August's 30 days painting challenge.

An Arab horde from Old Glory in 15mm.

A small piece of terrain for desert themed games in either 6 or 10mm - this started life as a Warbases pond base in 2mm MDF.

The rear rank of crossbowmen from Gladiator Miniatures complete the first two stands or half spear hald crossbow for the Late Crusaders in ADLG.

What the crows see at the start of the bloody day.

The start of the next half and half unit, alas the spearmen didn't make August's muster.

This completes August's 30 Days 30 Miniatures and the final tally is:

27 x 15mm Infantry
1 x 15mm Elephant and crew
2 x 28mm Infantry
1 x 10mm terrain piece

Totalling 31 painted miniatures.

Will be starting the next challenge tomorrow night.

Cheers for now.

Back to the Brushes 337

A couple of Analogue Painting Challenges back a platoon of D.A.K were started for Chain of Command in 20mm. The main platoon and support weapons were completed and then like so many other projects the motivation for the game disappeared. That is until now where its come back and this time also includes a platoon for Big Chain of Command in 10mm figures.

Battlefield Miniatures Pioneer Squad and regular infantry squad.

Battlefield figures are currently out of production which is a shame as the figures have a lot of character in them and are great to paint.

Pendraken 50mm mortar, sniper stand and anti-tank rifle

The Big Chain of Command platoon will also include support options the first of these are below. For the size of the figures the level of detail is exceptionally high making painting harder because if it's there then it needs to be painted.

Pendraken PAK 38 and crew

The bases for these are from Warbases and will be using the FOW small and medium bases for troops and vehicles to suit along with round cornered bases for smaller support teams as necessary.

Cheers for now

Back to the Brushes 335

Been working on a small force for Big Chain of Command in 10mm. As these are first 10mm figures painted here I've put together a little how to guide based on how the paint flowed.

Base coat of Vallejo Green Brown
Contrast Templar Black to cover everything

In retrospect, will undercoat in black for future vehicles and miss this stage out.

Recoated with the base colour, leaving black lines showing.

Yellow green and dark sand mix to base tone. Followed by a dry brush of dark sand alone.

The bases have been textured and are now waiting on finishing before joining the list of items to be photographed for the AHPC XII

Hope you found this interesting.

Stay safe and cheers.
