Finishing off two elements of Thracian cavalry for DBA or ADLG. The element to the right you the screen as viewed is one of the options for the General's stand. The other two options include a unit of Knights or a units of auxillary infantry. Both offering different options for the army.

How Far Jerusalem 8
Finally finished these three stands of skirmishing archers and crossbowmen for the Late Crusaders in ADLG and DBA.
The figures are all from the now out of production Gladiator Games that make the bulk of this army and my Wars of the Roses collection too.
The crossbowmen are part of a military order hence the more uniformed colouring on the tabards, however as they are skirmishers it's not full flying colours.
Cheers for now.

Moving on with the Bundeswehr for Team Yankee, this time with a zug of Gepards to keep the skies clear.
The process for the camo painting is now nailed down and is speeding up the overall painting time. After the base coat of refractive green working it's down to one colour on each vehicle before moving on to the next. Keeping this in line is helping, that along with a tidier work space.
Jaguars and more Leopards in the future too.
Cheers for now.

Moving forwards with the Bundeswehr M109 self propelled artillery for Team Yankee. Dry brush and gloss varnish at the next session then decals, oil wash and final matt varnishing.
Simples, then to finish some infantry stands and Marder 1s. Nothing to it, save some Gepards, Leopard 2s and a few other AFVs.
Cheers for now.

Spent some time last night blocking the base colours for the first Panzergrenadier Zug. The figures are all from Battlefront and despite a bit of flash and mould lines here and there are generally good.
The zug includes three Milan 1s, a Carl Gustav, and four teams armed with an assortment of G3 battle rifles and MG3 machine guns.

Back to the Brushes 411
The last week has been busy with other things so as a result hobby time has lapsed as has blogging. So, it's time to get things back on track with some work in progress pics.
With a first game of Kings of War beckoning thought it only right to spend some time on a character for the army.
The necromancer was started a while back however, the skeletons rising from the earth are recent additions repurposed from damaged 3D prints. On the subject of 3D prints, here's the start of a few regiments of armoured zombies from Highlander Miniatures.
More to follow shortly as have some time set aside to bash on with these projects and others.
Cheers for now.

A couple sessions base coating a few different AFV for the Team Yankee Bundeswehr.

For the planned starter force only three Marders are needed however; it makes more sense to paint the full zug in the one go.

Will update progress on these and a few other side projects shortly.

Seven days to the Rhine 1
Recently shown as my first entry to this year's Painting Challenge and it's something a bit different. Well painting German AFV isn't that new, however the scale and period are: 15mm Cold War
The Cold War is a new period here, although having grown up during the seventies and eighties under the shadow of a naval base in Scotland there are elements that seemed all too real. When deciding to paint these models, I wanted to recreate that shadow, to show AFVs that have left their bases and are own their own.
The models are from Battlefront's Team Yankee range and show Leopard 1s in NATO three colour camouflage. The first set of pictures show the HQ section of the Panzer Kompanie, followed by the first of two panzer zug.
The models have gone through several stages to achieve the look shown:
- Primed in Vallejo NATO green primer
- Base coat in reflective green
- Camouflage colours added in Black Gray and Flat Earth
- Dry brushed with Iraqi Sand
- Gloss varnished
- Apply decals
- Gloss varnish decals to seal
- Oil wash with AK Interactive NATO camouflage wash.
- Cotton bud wipe with mineral spirits
- Matt varnish - two coats
Hope that everyone enjoys this post and already working on more for this period and others for future posts.
Cheers for now

Below shows the start of the next phase in the Bundeswehr force for Team Yankee; IFV Marder I.
Currently, the Marders are only primed with NATO green at this point prior to base coating with Vallejo Reflective Green.
Keeping the theme of AFV going but changing period and scale to WWII and 10mm. This means long needed return to a stalled project: D.A.K for O Group.

Included in the picture above (from left to right are) 2 of Sf Kdz 221 & 3 Sf Kdz 222. Currently in their base panzer gray colour prior to being re-coloured for North Africa.
More to follow soon.
Cheers for now.

The beginning of the end for the first models in 2026.
The left hand Leopard has been oil washed whilst the right hand is still in the base colours. The removal of the main part of the wash will finish the AFV apart from a double coat of Matt varnish to seal.
The remainder of the zug are in the sidings waiting on their decals being applied.
The Marders are in the process of being primed and based coated in reflective green.
Cheers for now

Moving slowly forward with the first zug of Leopard 1s for Team Yankee after finishing the blocking in the three colour N.A.T.O camouflage pattern
The next steps whilst prepping the Marder 1s will be:

- Over paint tracks with flat earth
- Gloss varnish the hull and turrets
- Apply decals
- Dry brush with Iraqi Sand
- Apply and remove oil washes
- Finish with Matt varnish

Fresh start for 2026.
That is the base coat of Vallejo Reflective Green down on this zug of Leopard 1s for Team Yankee
This is the start of a Bundeswehr force for Cold War games around either the Team Yankee or Centag rule systems.
The rumble in the background shows the bits and pieces of two catapults for the Undead in Kings of War. So far, there has been more swearing than flying on these as there were no assemble instructions provided with these digital prints.
Cheers for now.

Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge XV
Winter has arrived and the prep for this year's Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge is underway. Having joined the lists again I am needing to find 500 points of 2, 10, 15 and 28mm miniatures to paint between December 21st and March 21st.
Decisions are not always the easiest of things to make and can often change how the challenge runs. The initial running list includes:
- 2mm Punic Wars
- 10mm DAK for O Group
- 15mm Romano Brits for ADLG
- 15mm Samurai
- 28mm Romano Brits for SAGA
- 28mm Dwarves for Kings of War
- 28mm Hundred Years War for SAGA
- 28mm Christian Spanish
There are more options, however, I'm looking to finalise a set list and point values from the above with a schedule to ensure that there is time to complete sections across the Challenge and to keep things interesting throughout.
Cheers for now

Back to the Brushes 395
A little update on the Romano British javelin men.
The front two stands of Psiloi are ready for varnishing and basing and the larger stands to the rear aren't that far behind.
At this point there are no immediate plans for the shields beyond the yellow ochre already used. This colour fits in well with the muted bieges and greens used for the and unifies the figures in the stand. In reality, there would probably be less unification in the Dark Ages however at this scale it suits purposes well.
Next up in this project will be the start of the ponies.
Cheers for now
