Fury of the North 24

Recently completed Norman crossbowmen from Gripping Beast.

These have been based on 20mm squares to allow for use in multiple skirmish games such as SAGA, Lion Rampant, Outremer and WAB to name a few.

Although there are newer sculpts available for these troops these are still the favourites.

Cheers for now.

Back to the Brushes 254

Moving forwards yet standing still. Progress on several different parts of this year's Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge X.

Above are four Hearthguards for a slow moving SAGA Romano British Warband. These venerable figures have been waiting to be painted for the last decade and where primed inlast year's challenge.

Below are three skirmishers for the Spartans in Mortal Gods. The poor quality of the picture doesn't show the red well on either the skirmishers or the Ashigaru next to them.

The next picture is poor quality again. Limited lighting and poorxquality control. The figures are from Museum Miniatures and are part of the expanding generic Arab forces in 15mm. Out of frame are another four to make three stands of cavalry.

More to follow shortly.

Cheers for now.

Black Flags

Second entry for this year's challenge and this time it is also a part of Challenge Island.

Starting by landing at Sander's Sand Dune, this lonely pirate is seeing red all around him. Napoleonics, Romans and many more all in shades of red.

A Wargames Foundry Oriental pirate that was a part of a small band of rogues in the painting lists.

The red is a new addition to the paint pot coming from Citadel's range of paints. Base, wash and layer giving a red with impact and depth. The colours, god only knows they have such strange names.

This figure is also being offered as the Curtgeld and a prize for those who have journeyed to the Challenge Island.

Thanks for looking and in terms of points this bring in

5 for 1 x 28mm
25 for Curtgeld
30 for Challenge Island prize.

Challenge Total 104 (21% completed)

Cheers for now.

Reconquista 6

The first of two stands of Christian Mercenary crossbowmen for the Almohads.

The figures are from Gripping Beast's Norman range and whilst old are still good miniatures for their period.

These figures are very versatile and will see use as Normans, First Crusaders, Christian Spanish and Mercenaries for all of the above and more.

More of these soon.

Cheers for now

Imperium Sine Fine 19

Catching up with the ongoing repurposing of the Late Roman army in 28mm.

These figures were originally painted for a WAB army, then rebased for Impetus and now are being re-purposed for ADLG or absolutely anything as they are now based on 60mm fronts.

There are two stands of light infantry here with another two of medium foot to follow shortly.

For these figures this will be the last time that they will be rebased regardless of rules or changes. Same for anything else for that matter.

Cheers for now

All Hell Let Loose 15

First finished figures of this year and recently shown in this Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge C as the first entry for this year's challenge.

Picked these figures up at Carronade over a decade ago and decided that this would be their year.

The figures are from the SHQ Mediterrean range of WW2 Germans and are great figures in 20mm. The castings are clear, the detail crisp although to some the figures would slightly too thin.

There are two Lt and two radio operators and spotters however, these figures never go wrong.

There are more from this range to follow throught the challenge including a couple of pieces of armour, support weapons and an AT gun.

Scoring for these I believe is:

11 x 20mm figures at 4 points each, totalling 44 points for my first entry (8.8 % of total completed)

Back to the Brushes 253

First miniatures of the year waiting to have their bases finished. Looking at the forecast for the weather this weekend shouldn't be an issue to get this done.

Not sure if the DAK are aware that Buckingham's bombard might not be that effective against AFVs. Would be an interesting study though.

Cheers for now.

Back to the Brushes 252

Christmas has come and gone, a decade ended and a New Year started alongside a new decade. However, all of this was missed here as I was laid low by the dread man flu.

The last two nights have seen the first real painting for this year's Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge X and as you can see below there are some different things on the go already.

First up, DAK in 20mm from SHQ. These are being block painted then washed with either soft or strong tone ink from Army Painter.

Picked these up at Carronade a long time ago now for next to nothing.

Next, Perry Ashigaru for Lion Rampant in 28mm. Detailed figures that so far have been a pleasure to paint. The test figure on the far right is further along is a good guide to how the finished unit will look. The Samurai for this warband will be in a brighter red to show them off on the table. The inspiration for these came from the charge Li Naomasa's Red Devils at the Battle of Sekigahara.

Next is the beginnings of a 15mm War of the Roses army for both DBA and ADLG. The army will be Lancasterian and at this stage very little is known about this period other than the names of a few battles.

Last up are some Romans from Foundry and Gripping Beast. The Foundry are all Late Romans for command stands. The Gripping Beast include Caesarian Romans, Late Romans and four Romano Brits.

Cheers for now
