The Old Glory figures have great character amd paint up well. There will be more of these sooner and later.

Yesterday was the last day of the current 30 Days 30 Miniatures Painting Challenge; which earlier this week looked like it was not going to happen.

A last push at the finish line made the following possible:

First up are Confederates from Old Glory. These 15mm figures are animated and characterful; just what you need for charging the Union lines.

Next, an old mid nineties skeleton from Citadel or Marauder Miniatures. A great figure to paint, perfect for finishing off a painting challenge.

Completed this challenge:

Painted in 2018 and finally based and ready for action in 2019 these casualty stands and command stand are from Friekorps and Old Glory's Blue Moon range.

Needing to go back to using the main camera rather than the phone cam, however its a time thing and everything can be done on the device. Time can be daunting just now.

Some what more daunting is the twenty odd stands of foot at the back of the painting desk. Will get there soon.

The command stand and out of ammo markers are from Old Glory's Blue Moon range.

The casualty markers are from Freikorps and were great to paint. Casualty markers often prompt the thought of getting and painting a few "flats" for the fun of it. Maybe someday...

Next are three more command stands for the Confederate  States of America. The figures this time are from Blue Moon supplied by Old Glory.

From right to left below there are standards for the 11th Missippi, South Carolina 6th Volunteers and the 24th Alabama infantry.

More standards and markers to follow along with work in progress pictures from the Greeks and Arabs.

Continuing on from the previous post here are the first batch of command stands for the CSA infantry.

Also on the table in varying stages are some casualty markers for cavalry, foot and artillery.

For all of these figures will be block painting and washing in either strong or dark tone Army Painter wash. Looking to create a good atmospheric feel to the figures, that is dark and grim, with out taking a life time to do so. Time isn't something that is greatly available here although the figures do warrant some effort just not three layers and wash on an 18mm figure.

Next post will show some completed figures from a much older period.

Been a while since anything for the American Civil War has been painted and here is the start of some seventy bases of infantry for the Confederates shown below.

Figures are from Old Glory's Blue Moon range and block and wash well enough for the rule of three foot. An interesting approach from a fellow blogger can be viewed here; wish had thought of this years ago.

To be used for with Battle Cry, Fire and Fury and Pickett's Charge.

Next up will show some more of the same in various stages of painting - predominately command stands too.

Been working on some Hex terrain features recently for broken ground. These have been painted with emulsion matches to Foundry Granite C and B.

Here are two that have been flocked, on the left fully dry and on the right drying.

These are for use on a Hexon board for a 15mm version of Battle Cry. The larger bases will work for some scenarios however, practically single bases would have been a better option; you live and learn.

Here are the rebased CSA Cavalry for use with Battle Cry or Fire and Fury. The figures are thought to be mostly Essex but now way of knowing for sure.

Not an expert on the ACW however think that there are some of Essex's First Virginian cavalry in the picture above.

A few more loose ends to complete with these figures and then on to painting the undercoated masses of infantry and cavalry waiting in the sides.

Another batch of rebased Essex Confederates which now completes the infantry.

The more perceptive reader will notice that this is the same command stand as used in a previous post, they are the one element that this force lacks in any number. Never mind there are plenty in the box still to be painted.

The total number of stands is twenty nine including the command, which is just short of the forty required for some scenarios in Battle Cry. As command stands are short in number these will be the start of the infantry bases for painting.

There will be more Rebels in the near future as the last of the second hand figures are rebased for use.

Another batch of 15mm ACW Confederate Infantry have been rebased, washed with Agrax Earth stain and matt varnished.

There are five regular stands here and one command with a slightly over trimmed flag. Not paying attention to the outer trim lines leads to no white surround on the CSA flag.  Not the end of the world and this has been done on another stand's flag as well.

The next group of infantry will complete the rebasing of the painted second hand figures leading to the start of painting more stands to bulk out the force for Battle Cry and Fire and Fury. With fifty odd stands to paint there will be more than enough for both.

More work in progress pictures to follow shortly.

Back to the American Civil War and the rebasing and finishing of  15mm figures from this period. This time there are the artillery pieces, five in all, which will be enough for Battle Cry if tokens are used to depict losses whilst under fire. Sorry some of the pictures are ever so slightly out of focus.

Again not sure of the manufacturer of these figures, possibly Essex or Freikorps? Not that it really matters as they allow games to be played.

The last piece in this set was this "little" mortar. Not sure of its use in game terms, however, it will be used in some fashion in the future.

Next in this range will be more infantry and the start of the cavalry units.

Here are the first completed stands of the thirty or so infantry stands to have been debased, rebased, washed in Agrax Earth shade and then matt varnished. Twelve are shown below.

The figures are thought to be Essex Miniatures and although they look particularly dark are very good when assembled en masse. The darker finish will suit some tinkering with the images for those black and white period pics.

However, more about that in the future.

There will be more infantry and dismounted cavalry to follow shortly.

Some more work in progress pics of both 6mm Rapier Miniatures Hypaspists and the ongoing rebasing of 15mm Essex ACW Confederates.

Shown next to their finished comrades in arms to spur them on to greater things in the future; or something like that.

Below is the start of the Greek/Macedonian Light cavalry, with six stands in all. These javelin armed cavalry will scurry the flanks and weak points of the opposition looking for cracks for their heavier big brothers to exploit.

With the infantry all waiting on the final coat of varnish here are the first three stands of artillery; there are six in all at present.

The brick work in the background is from a building for Dead Man's Hand.

The start of another series of entires for the blog picturing the progress of a 15mm Confederate States of America army for both Battle Cry and Fire and Fury.

This will included a mixture of second hand figures rebased and washed in Agrax Earth Shade before matt varnishing and a number of newly painted and based figures to boost the numbers. Those figures pictured below have been specifically painted for this.

This is a new period and style of painting which is proving at present to be quite slow. The figures are undercoated in light grey, base colours added then washed in Agrax Earth to provide shading before matt varnishing. Overall the figures look good and the effect when more are completed will be more powerful than that of the four stands pictured here.

There will be more pictures from this period shortly showing some of the second hand figures rebased and completed for use.

Some work in progress pictures of a variety of different projects and odds and sods shown below.

A mismatch of figures here; there are Gripping Beast Vikings, Moors, Ragnar Lothbrok and more Moors on the left of the picture as viewed. On the right you have some 6mm Rapier Macedonians, some vintage Citadel picked up at Carronade earlier this month for 30 pence a figure - this includes a Lone Wolf guardsman. To the top left of the 6mm chappies is a Foundry Rat Catcher - a very late Curtgeld Figure that is slowly taking shape. Behind this lot are 15mm Ground Zero Plasma cannons and then yet more Gripping Beast Vikings.

Central posed are the some of the painted ACW Confederates that came along with the English Civil War and French Napoleonic's obtained some years ago second hand. These are finally getting based for use with either Fire & Fury or Battle Cry. To their rear are some SHQ 20mm Germans that truly need dusting before anything can be done with them.

 Above are more Rapier 6mm, this time Macedonian Companions and Greek Medium Cavalry. A few more stands of ACW infantry - painted this time here and finally in the top left corner a 20mm 88 and 17lb AT.

As previously mentioned a variety of different things on the go with the ACW being priority at present.
