Back to the Brushes 157

First real painting session since the end of the Challenge saw some time spent on a few varied pieces, some un-started some partially painted, some just needing a new base.

During the Challenge a solitary elf was painted, based and finished. The fact is the elf was part of the Citadel High Elves C08 range and the link shows that the elf is far from solitary.

Strangely enough tucked away in a dusty drawer in the lead mountain there is a full set of these very High Elves and below is the companion figure for the early painted War maid. Some colour to follow shortly for this figure.

A while back a Warband for Songs of Blades and Heroes was started using 'Ranger' type figures and below are two that are so very near completion. These are the original Rangers of Ithilien from Citadel's Lord of the Rings range circa 1985.

These two Foundry figures from the War of the Roses range are being rebased to hex bases as henchmen for some of the fighter types painted last year. These two gents were originally painted over twenty years ago and show some early progress with layering.

Lastly, have been catching up with Vikings on Amazon Prime and as a result these three figures have been dug out for painting. The chap in the buff coat is one of these figures that will be painted because its there, not because of any other reason, not happy with the flesh tones on this one and the coat may well change.

Butterfly painting at present however that helps with keeping the interest levels high before venturing into painting a full base's worth of figures in the one theme.

Cheers for now

The Dance of Bronze

Well, there are things happening here, strange things. A first in fact as the Victrix Spartans are in the post. These figures hopefully will bulk out the remaining metals from Foundry and be the first venture in 28mm plastics. The picture below shows some painted examples of which most look useable, although there are some reservations on the musician and the officer type second from the top left with the half crested helm. Any way enough rambling and here is the picture:

The above picture has shamelessly be grabbed from the Victrix website and the link above shows the possibilities with these figures.

Work continues on the Germanic Foederati for the Late Romans and other projects start in the dark corners of the mind. Hopefully there will be some painted figures to show soon.

Cheers for now

Still Waiting...

Well another a week has passed by and it seems that life and work have taken over again. Still no pics of the finished units or of any WIP either - something which will be corrected this weekend. On the plus side the Spartan cavalry has arrived, good figures but unfortunately they are quite heavily flashed on both rider and horse, so a bit of scrapping and filing required there.

The last decision to be made relates to the Allied Hoplites, whether to use other figures from the World of Greeks range other than Spartans or to go with more of the same. At present no real thoughts but it could be a wait on the new plastic ranges to see how they will fit into the existing army. Time will tell.

Temptation Two

Not only have Victrix announced a range of plastic hoplites but Immortal Miniatures have announced a range of plastic Spartans as well. Can't comment on either range as yet but will be keeping an eye out for these later next month.

For those of you who prefer the "spindles" then also look out for the following:

The first previews of Immortal  Miniatures soon to be released Persians.

Cheers.

Temptation

Victrix's latest news releases have shown more images of their forth coming plastic Hoplites for Spartans, Athenians and Thebans. Each box will contain 48 figures, almost enough for 5 bases of heavy infantry in Impetus, which incidentally is nearly a complete Basic Impetus army. A great starting point if you are interested in Hoplite Warfare. Have a look at the link below

Work on the Spartans has been slow this week and there is nothing more to post on the subject. Motivation is a fickle creature at best, something everybody encounters from time to time.

Cheers for now.
