Back to the Brushes 338

Back to the French Indian War with these Coureurs de Bois from AW Miniatures. 

These will be for use in Muskets and Tomahawks or Rebels and Patriots.

The figures from AW Miniatures have a style of their own that shines through in their sculpting and character. 

Another session with these later this week will add some more colours to them, mostly reds and browns.

So Glorious a War

The title of this post and subsequent posts for this period comes from the following:

"No prince has ever begun his reign by so glorious a war and so generous a peace."

- Lord Egremont to King George III of Great Britain, crowned on October 25th, 1760, just two weeks after the fall of Montreal ending the French and Indian War.

The double edge nature of the quote appealed and I shortened as the first part seems more suited to gaming than war itself. 

This figure has been on the painting table for a while now, so took the time to finish him earlier this month. Part of a larger group of twelve figures from AW Miniatures' Compagnies Franches de la Marine for use in Rebels and Patriots. 

 As this is only the second figure painted from this group, it could be sometime before they grace a gaming table. That also depends on what 2022 brings us all. 

This takes the tally for December's 30 Days to:

30 Days 30 Miniatures Painting Challenge - July 2021 Round up

Round up pic for July 2021's 30 Days 30 Miniatures Painting Challenge. Managed to add in another 5 crossbowmen for 15mm Late Crusaders army.

This takes the total for last month to 

17 x 15mm infantry

1 x 20mm WW2 terrain piece

2 x 28mm infantry

Totalling 20 figures from 30 or 66% completion. 

Looking to improve on this for next month.

Back to the Brushes 314

Last update of July and here is the progress so far. Too many things on the table distracting each other and competing for time to be painted results in not completing as much as planned or liked. 

However, another two stands of hoplites have joined the Spartan ranks from the forges of Xyston. The Crusaders are another stand of heavy infantry nearer the finish and the DAK have some cover in 20mm.

The two 28mm figures are at opposite ends of both periods and progress. The Norman is one of the last that will be singularly based for skirmish games and the musket armed fellow is the first Compagnies Franches de la Marine for skirmish based games in the French Indian War.

Back to the Brushes 281

 A few work in progress pics of what is currently getting some painting time. 

The first pic is of Foundry Caesarian Romans and a Gripping Beast  Cornicen from their currently out of production Caesarian range. 

More from Gripping Beast this time with Norman or Christian Spanish Crossbowmen for El Cid. The figure at the far left as viewed on screen is now complete. 

Lastly there are the first of the Compagnie Franches de la Marine from the moulds of AW Miniatures and lurking at the very back are Warlord Games Prussian Landwehr. Three of the Landwehr are now finished. 

 The blues on the Marines have been done in two very different ways. 

 

On the left, the blue has been painted with Citadel Contrast Ultramarines Blue and highlighted with Calgar blue and on the right with Foundry Napoleonic French blue triad in layers. The jury is still out on both colours and methods of painting and will trial the Contrast paint again on another two figures with a the wraith-bone under coat.
