Fantasy Hero 17

A old Citadel C01 Fighter who originally graced the gaming table in 1984 and was the first figure fully painted and based at that time.

Repainted after almost 35 years the figure has lost a bit of the original detail but none of the character.

The motion and that sword really do give the impression that this is going to smart - just a bit.

Have another one in the lead mountain that the detail is a little crisper, just had to paint this one first in tribute to the C01 range

More to follow shortly.

Imperium Sine Fine 17

Rebasing or re-purposing as I now think of it can offer many opportunities and potential challenges to a gamer and painter. The Late Roman infantry below have been recently re-purposed from Impetus style bases on 120 x 60mm to 60 x 40mm bases for ADLG.

Six of the back rank on these stands have been match painted to the rest of the unit, originally painted around 15 years ago.

A recent entry in the AHPC IX these figures were surprisingly good to paint and have sparked off a Late Roman revival and change the bulk of initial planning for the Painting Challenge.

Figures three and four from the left are the original paint jobs.

More Late Romans to follow shortly as both finished and work in progress pictures.

Cheers for now.

Fantasy Hero 16

Returning to a favourite genre and style of figure; the Undead and in this case Wights from Mithril  (left of picture) and Citadel. These are a recent entry to the AHPC IX.

There are more of these to be painted and rebased for use in a skirmish game coming to a gaming table near you soon. A game when the world was older and darker and a warrior could carve a name for themselves worthy of a saga.

More undead to follow shortly.

Cheers for now

How Far Jerusalem 1

The start of two armies in one; Late Crusaders for both DBA and ADLG. The miniatures are all from Gladiator Miniatures formerly owned by Black Hat Figures and now by Fighting 15s.

These have all been a part of this year's Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge IX and have been painted using block colours and a wash of Agrax Earthshade for tone.

First two stands of spearmen showing Brother Knights and Brother Sergeants from the period between 1259 and 1273 when Brother Knights wore red tunics and Brother Sergeants remained in black. The papal bull was not popular and eventually over turned so that all Brothers wore red.

The decals are water slide transfers and are from VVV. Going back to water slide transfers is quite refreshing and they still apply well if Micro Sol and Set are used sparingly. The shields are 15mm scale and the tabards are 10mm in scale.

Crossbow and archers again from the sergeants.

Spearmen and crossbowmen as they will be on the table for ADLG - the double depth is visually effective and allows mini dioramas to be created.

More of these to follow shortly.

Cheers for now

Back to the Brushes 219

Still a lot on the painting table and not nearly enough time to complete it all for the Challenge's end on Wednesday.

Main areas that will be concentrated on include the 15mm Crusaders, 25mm Dark Elves, 28mm Late Roman horse archers and more 28mm skeletons.

The Normans will have to wait until post challenge.

The board is set...

Back to the Brushes 218

As the last weeks of this year's Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge start the sudden realisation that hardly anything has been submitted.

This will soon change with the first of several batches being posted this week.

But first, some random work in progress pictures of current painting.

Command stands for the 15mm Crusaders.

Some Late Saxons from 1st Corps? These are being speed painted; block base colours snd washed with strong tone. No more than twenty minutes painting on each.

The rebasing continues with all painted Germanic Tribes and Hun cavalry waiting for their bases to be textured, dry brushed and flocked. This time round all of the Late Romans, Germanic Tribes and Huns will have the same basing flock and tufts. This will enable all of them to be used as a part of the same or different armies. Simples

Thinking that starting this during the AHPC IX wasn't the best thing to do.

On top of the amp, there are some Undead, Moors, Germanic tribes and Late Romans as well.

More to follow shortly along with some completed pieces from the Challenge.

Cheers for now.
