Back to the Brushes 213

A work in update on some 28mm Undead figures from Mithril Miniatures and Citadel.

Top left is a Mithril Miniatures Wight. Base coated white then painted with Technical paint Nighthaunt Gloom. The dried figure has then been worked upto what you see using the Gloom paint mixed with white. Bloody marvelous effect can be obtained here. Citadel really need to expand this range as this really does give good results.

Top right and bottom left shows two Citadel wights. Both have been painted using layers. The top figure using Vallejo Game Colours Scruvy, Jade and Foul Green with a final touch of white added in. The second wight has been using Foundry Teal AB & C again with some white added as a final highlight.

Lastly some Citadel Skeleton base coated in Army Painter Skeleton Bone waiting for the next stage of painting.

Some other pieces are nearing completion and will hopefully be shown in the Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge next week.

Hmmm, some of the pics could be better.

Cheers for now.

Back to the Brushes 212

With the Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge IX almost at the half way and only 4.8% (24 points) recorded its time to get the brushes out.

As always in the Challenge the focus has changed and this time back to the Late Romans. It would seem the Hoplites will have to wait again.

Originally started for WAB at 500 and then increasing upto 1500 points. Then as is the way of gaming, trends change and Impetus was in vogue and now its Art de la Guerre. Each time has meant a rebasing project and this has caused extra painting for the first army. Above are an additional six heavy foot and a horse for a command stand.

There will be more to follow and a concerted effort to get some points on the board as there is a lot to paint in the next seven weeks.

Cheers for now

Back to the Brushes 211

Some armies are never truly finished and when the decision is made to rebase a "finished" army gaps start to appear.

These figures have been painted for a while now, however look a bit lost on the command stands on their own.

Currently just started is a mounted horn blower, not strictly a cornicen as the horn is not a cornu but a horn blower none the less.

When completed this will fill a gap on one of the stands however, foot standards and musicians would set the stands off perfectly. If anyone has anf figures from Foundry's LR005 spare please leave a comment.

More to follow soon on this never ending project as there are five mounted archers and eight cataprachts needing painted along with a host of other things for other projects ongoing and stalled alike.

Cheers for now

Fantasy Hero 18

Below is the first submission from this year's Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge or AHPC IX for short.

The figures are all from 15mm.co.uk and are a part of a HOTT army that grows yearly.

One stand of archers and one of crossbows; plus skirmishers  from each.

There will be a few more for this army in the remainder of the challenge which will complete the army for the time being.

All the figures are painted with base, wash and dry brush for a table top standard suitable for this scale.

The composite picture will become a feature in the blog from know on, allowing different angles to be shown together.

Next will be work in progress on a long stalled project.

Cheers for now

Back to the Brushes 210

Its bloody chaos out there; with a bit of just about everything on the painting table just now.

Looking to rationalise parts of this over the coming week and really start getting to grips with this year's painting challenge.

Next up will be some completed work as a part of the process.

Cheers for now

Dance of Bronze 20

These little fellows were painted during the 30 days 30 miniatures challenges in 2018 and have only now been fully based.

All three stands have figures from Rapier Miniatures Greek and Macedonian ranges.

Three more phalanxes are needed to reach the required amount for a DBA army and each base will require a rear stand for ADLG as the bases are double depth.

The cavalry will see use as medium Greek cavalry in both Greek and Macedonian armies with Companions and more medium cavalry to follow.

As always the massed effect of 6mm figures is hugely appealing and perfect for basing on 40mm fronts.

Next up will be some work in progress pictures then histoical and fantastical figures in varying sizes.

Cheers for now.

Back to the Brushes 209

First post of the New Year, so let's not delay over much.

Best wishes to everyone and may your brushes never splay.

Quick work in progress picture to start 2019 off with.

These are from a long stalled project that is the Late Romans. As the original army is being rebased at present to 60mm fronts to suit ADLG, a few gaps are appearing during the rebasing of the same. Thankfully, there were more than enough of these Gripping Beast figures to fill in the ranks when they are rebased. It will be interesting painting these to match their previously painted figures as my painting style has changed a bit since 2006/7 when these where completed. All the more fun!

Only 15 days into this years AHPCIX and the plans are changing already. Nothing new there.

Cheers for now
