Back to the Brushes 298

It's a slow start for the Macedonian DBA army in 28mm with these skirmishers taking far too long to get done.

Next time they are posted - hopefully later this week they'll be finished along with a few other units to support them.

Great figures from Foundry and over the years there have been a few painted for different uses. There are also a few more still to do to finish them off.

Hope that you found this interesting and stay safe.

Cheers for now.

Back to the Brushes 297

Three very scary ladies that are currently gracing the painting table.

The figures in black undercoat are from the classic range of Citadel pre-slotta CO9 Dark Elves. The central figure comes from Reaper Miniatures Bones range.

These will make a change from the Ancients that are currently being worked on and give an opportunity for a little trip down memory lane; the Drow have always been a firm favourite from roleplaying games.

More work in progress to follow shortly.

Thanks for the visit and stay safe.

Cheers for now

Dance of Bronze 22

Recently posted in the AHPC XI the following 28mm figures for skirmish gaming in ancient Greece. The veteran Spartan Hoplite in centre position being this year's Curtgeld figure or entry price.

The left hand figure is a healer from Mortal God (Footsore Miniatures), central the veteran Spartan Hoplite (Footsore Miniature) and on the right is the seer (Warlord Games)

All three have been a pleasure to paint and hopefully who ever gets the Hoplite will be pleased with the figure and the style of painting used.

Mortal Gods was a game that I had just started to play early last year and hoping to get back to it later this year. Might even opt to try this on a virtual platform if can manage the tech.

In terms of points these three gents yield

3 x 28mm figures - 15 points
Curtgeld bonus - 20 points

Totalling 35 points.

This added to the running total takes the challenge to 87 points (14.5 % completed). Looks like this is going to be a busy month as there are several items on the painting table nearing completion.

Thanks for looking and stay safe.

Cheers for now.

Imperium Sine Fine 27

Recently completed and posted to the AHPC XI this post has a mixture of supporting troop types for an ongoing project in 15mm: Early Imperial Romans.

Unlike many projects this was initially down to luck. The luck being, getting a PSC Ultra Cast EIR box set off evil Bay at a very reasonable price. Then luck followed luck as a good number of Corvus Belle EIR figures came up on the same again at reasonable prices, allowing the force to be expanded to cover DBA and an ADLG army too, well nearly.

Making a conscious effort with this army to paint it by troop types starting with light infantry, in this case archers, slingers, javelin-men and a pair of scorpions to finish off the shooty death section. So without any more rambling on here are the finished figures:

Eight javelin armed skirmisher from the War and Empire range produced by Forged in Battle. Painted in drab colours to mark their status as lower classed troops.

The bases are textured using Geek Gaming Scenics Base ready Patch Plains mixed then flocked with 2mm static grass to add colour and interest. This is a new process for 15mm figures and cuts out the need to glue sand, ink wash then dry brush the sand before flocking; its quicker and gives a good finish once over flocked.

Next are eight slingers that are also from Forged in Battle. Both sets sit well beside the PSC 15mm figures if a little chunkier.

The first of the PSC Ultra Cast figures with six skirmishing archers covering a scorpion and two crew.

Once painted and at a distance there is no way of telling if these are metal or not. That is until they are picked up as there is practically no weight to them. That said the figures paint up well and provide a good basis for the core of an Early Imperial Roman army. It's a pity that the infantry and cavalry are only available in the boxed sets.

Below is a group picture of the army so far with figures painted pre December 21st 2020 including two stands of three archers, three additional stands of skirmishing archers and a second scorpion. These are not included in the points total below.

Both the archers above and the scorpion below have been painted before the start date and are shown pre-black edge painting.

So, there are a total of twenty four foot figures and 1 crewed weapon in 15mm giving a start to the points total of 52 or 8.67% of the target total of 600 points. Now it's time to start prepping the auxilia infantry with 38 figures waiting in the wings.

Hope that you find these of interest and stay safe!

Back to the Brushes 296

As we move into the end of the third week of the AHPC XI it's time to start getting stuff finished and ready to be photographed.

Below are some more work in progress pics somethings are on the starting lines. The finished bits will be shown later due to the rules of the AHPC.

Both sets of figures are from Foundry with the top being Greek hoplites and below being Macedonian Hypaspists for the Macedonian DBA army in 28mm.

Not shown here, however the Prodromoi are nearing completion alongside some Agrianes skirmishers.

At this point in the Challenge most items that are currently on the painting table are from Ancient Greece and Macedonia. Some interests will never fade and here is one of the reasons why as a boy this interest was generated on Saturday afternoons watching matinees:

Hope that you found this interesting and stay safe.

Cheers for now.

Hobby Plans 2021

With the passing of 2020 hopefully soon to be forgotten by all its time to look ahead to 2021.

A year of endless possibilities, change and new challenges? Probably all and many other things.

In terms of hobby plans for this year here is a brief outline:

  • Successfully complete the Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge XI
  • Finish painting the following:
    • 18mm Bavarians for the Seven Years War
    • 28mm Prussian Landwehr
    • 28mm Hoplites
    • 28mm Caesarian Romans
    • 28mm Phalangites
    • 20mm D.A.K.
    • 15mm DBA matched pair for the 2nd Punic War
  • Try to game as often as possible virtually or once the vaccines are in place safely in person
  • Develop painting skills further and possibly look into a basic airbrush set
That should keep things busy for the year without adding in any new shiney that might catch a magpie's eye.

Stay safe and thanks for visiting
