Fantasy Hero 21

Another small post with a few pieces that have been lingering around for too long.

First up is an old figure from Citadel or Marauder Miniatures back in the day. Always liked this figure and painted this one too match some skeletons from a previous AHPC.

Next up are a two pieces of scatter terrain from Games Workshop's Lord of the Rings SBG. These have been painted with an arid climate in mind and as a result only one has some additional scenic material added.

These will see a fair amount of use when gaming is able to start again in the future and will included games such as Mortal Gods and the Rampant series.

Both of these started as a base colour of Dheneb Stone and have been washed with Army Painter strong tone and worked up to almost white in places.

The will be some more versatile items to show shortly.

Hope that you found this interesting

Cheers for now

Back to the Brushes 263

As a slight diversion from Gondorians being painted in black and silver these have been dusted down and they were thick with stour to the point of being almost grey in colour.

Looking to paint these in the same fashion as the first members of this Mordheim warband painted about 15 years ago.

Easier said than done as the jade green has dried to a crisp...

Hope that you find this interesting

Hannibal antes portas

Another new theme here and this time it is the start of a range of figures that are multi-purpose in Ancient Mediterranean warfare, Ancient Spanish and Iberians.

The first stands for these versatile troops are two bases of Caetrati which will be used in both Carthaginian and Caesarean Roman armies for both ADLG and DBA. The figures are from Gripping Beast's Punic Wars range and have gathered dust for far too long in the lead mountain.

Ultimately these will be a part of the Carthaginian army that will be started later on this summer. however do like to do a test stand or two before starting the bigger units.

Painted using block, shade wash and then highlighting with the base tone which is quicker than layering with three tones although not as effective. When using the Rule of Three Feet they look very good and mean that two armies will be useable for gaming much sooner than thought.

To follow these will be more infantry and then on to both light and medium cavalry.

Probably should swap the shields on the front base over so the colours are in a different order than that of the second base, however that is a task for another day.

Hope you found this interesting.

Stay safe and cheers for now.

Dance of Bronze 21

Last summer the Spartan army for Impetus was repurposed on to 60mm front bases to allow more use with a variety of systems including ADLG and Hail Caesar. The paint work on this figure was slightly damaged during this process. Now touched up and rebased for use in Mortal Gods.

Hope this has been of interest to you

Dance of Bronze 20

Recently completed and based these Greek slingers are from Foundry's original range of Ancient Greeks.

As a result they are slightly shorter and thinner build than the World of the Greeks range however this does not stop them being used in the same armies.

As these were the last two left to paint there was no option to vary the poses on this stand; it was advancing with sling as shown or nothing.

As they are broadly generic figures they can be used for most armies in this period so will likely be a part of the Spartans and future Caesarian and Carthaginian armies for DBA and ADLG

Hope that you found this interesting.

Stay safe and cheers for now.

The Sunne in Splendour 2

Where are the weeks going? Is this the start of week seven or eight; not sure anymore and they are all becoming one in lockdown.

A small post this time round consisting of 4 15mm War of the Roses figures from Gladiator Miniatures.

These are part of the additional elements required to take the DBA army up to the level of an ADLG army. The first of quite a few additional bases especially of foot.

These will be retinue billmen in game terms and part of Oxford's command in the overall scheme of things.

Hope that you found this interesting.

Stay safe and cheers for now.

Back to the Brushes 262

With a variety of different items on the painting table at present deciding which to post was an interesting choice.

Both of the items below are parts of projects that have grown over the years. Firstly the undead cavalry from Alternative Armies are additional units for a Hordes of the Things army that was completed several years back.

As HOTT offers flexibility on which units can be included in a 24 point army there have always been a few additional packs to paint and these were some of these. The riders have been primed and are waiting on base coats before the everything is washed in the one session.

There is a difference in the base colour of the horse's chainmail as old faithfully metallic paint has finally passed on to the other side. The central horse of the second stand shows the new choice which is Foundry Chainmail A. This is brighter than the previous colour which could have been an old Citadel or Coats d'Arms paint however as there was no label on the pot who can tell. Whilst not a problem on these figures it is a bit brighter than preferred so will look at several other options in addition to this.

The next figure will be used for a healer type in SAGA or the Rampant series of games. Not sure of the manufacturer of this one and apologies that the focal point is on the hands not the face; sloppy.

Hope you found this interesting

Back to the Brushes 261

As the Axemen of Lossarnach are nearly completed have made a start on the next unit for Gondor Rampant.

This unit will represent the back bone of the warband; spear armed heavy foot. There are another seven that are only primed at this time.

Boromir is included because he is there not because he is a part of the unit.

Also started are two pieces of scatter terrain.

The well is generic and will be used for all 28mm skirmish games. This is a 3D printed item that was picked up at Carronade 2019.

The statue is from Games Workshop and has been gathering dust for as long as the Gondorian infantry.

Both items have been mounted on 70mm rounds from Warbases and textured with ready mix plaster and sand. Finding this works better for larger bases than sand alone.

Hoping to make good progress with these this weekend when the weather changes.

Hope you found something of interest.

Stay safe

The Sunne In Splendour

Roughly twenty years ago in a charity shop lay a slightly worn copy of Sharon Penman's The Sunne in Splendour which made its way to the reading pile.

At the time, there were no thoughts of any miniatures, armies, retinues or games relating to the Wars of the Roses; this is a much more recent plan again brought on by another fiction novel - Stormbird and a bargain on evil bay - 2 15mm DBA armies worth of Gladiator Miniatures Wars of the Roses 15mm figures.

So here starts what is likely to be a fairly long series of posts under the title of The Sunne in Splendour. Ironically, the book of the same title is from the Yorkist view point and Richard the Third, yet the subject here will be Lancasterian figures.

The full Battle

DBA army plus an additional Light Infantry base

Buckingham's Command

Oxford's Command

The first Command stand for ADLG

All the King's Horses
There will be more for this period in both 15mm and 28mm in the future. Hope that you find this interesting.

Stay safe.

Cheers for now.

All Hell Let Loose 18

The next two support stands for the D.A.K. from SHQ Miniatures include an 8cm Grw 34 mortar and crew plus a second MG34 because you can never have enough suppressive fire...

These were started during the AHPC X however where not completed in time to be shown there.

To follow these will be another infantry section and some more support for the poor bloody infantry.

Thanks for visiting and hope you found something of interest.

Stay safe

Cheers for now.
