More skirmishers for the Almoravids, one stand having already been shown a while back.

Depending on the list these can also double up a foot light stand in Basic Impetus as well as cheekily appearing in the 'Cid's army as well.

Returning to the Almoravids and here is the first skirmisher stand for the now Basic Impetus army as a good few of the figures have been moved over to a SAGA warband for the same.

More from the same to follow shortly as the basing is completed on a few more stands from a personal challenge a few years ago.

Fantasy Heroes 5

A recently completed retro Citadel figure the Talisman range - this time a Ranger. A great figure from a great range of classics figures from a classic game.

The final highlight on the cloak is either missing or far too close to the midtone. Not sure that the new glasses will pick up on forgetting or poor mixing though.

Back to the Brushes 132

Another stand of 15mm Arabs awaits basing, this time it is bow armed skirmishers from Essex miniatures. Finally found a painting style that suits this scale and period for me and it is very simple - block and wash.

Tried a few figures in same style that is used for 20mm figures, that is midtone and highlight however, felt that it was too much work for the figures, although have seen some stunning 15mm figures with two and possibly three layers applied.

A full stand of archers has been prepared for painting in the coming weeks.

Fury of the Norse 21

As promised here are the next three Viking Bondi from Gripping Beast. The central figure has a hand painted shield the other two are from Little Big Men with some additions to the colour here and there.

These three now mean that there are enough figures to build more sabot bases for Basic Impetus so the new list - of which there are four more stands in - can now be an option if played.

The final highlight on the red does not show well in these pictures and on reflection is perhaps too close to the mid tone of the tunic. You live and learn as they say.

Have recently started another four hirdmen so watch out for progress on them in the future.

Losing that gaming mojo

From time to time our motivation for the hobby ebbs and flows. Some drift off and never return others find a new period, scale or game to re-motivate themselves and others drop from one part of the hobby be that painting or gaming. 

Been there in differing ways over the years with different parts of this hobby from role-playing, skirmish games and larger table top games, the mood and motivation for these flags from year to year. Can be down to not gaming, too many games, new games, old games or just pure can bothered any more.  The constant has always been the painting and it often leads back to gaming with more energy than before.

So when your motivation drops, remember may the road rise with you and anger is an energy!

Back to the Brushes 131

A couple of quick work in progress pictures from the table. Firstly, the Black Guard for a SAGA Moors faction, with some 15mm archers in the back taking note that their big brothers have seen more of the brush than they have. Figures from Gripping Beast

Next, the forces of conquest; the Moors gathered for the off. Top left and second top left are more figures for the slow moving Almoravid Basic Impetus army - not including the thirty archers required for this army. Most of the rest are for SAGA.

Back to the Brushes 130

Some quick work in progress pictures starting with the Vikings moving ever slowly forward. The other two are having a well earnt break.

Next a few scenery pieces from Hovels in 25mm, these are versatile bits that will see use in a variety of small scale games once finished.

Lastly, a Ranger from the Citadel Talisman range circa 1986/87; that is so very nearly finished.
