Back to the Brushes 217

Moving forward with another three sets of figures.

First up, Late Roman archers from Gripping Beast. These will be ideal for supporting missile units and skirmishers. Also pictured are the first Crusader cavalry in 15mm as well as some command figures.

Next some classic plastic skeletons from Citadel along with the occasional metal figure in here too.

Last up, original Normans from Foundry. These have had more colour added with two layers of flesh added and the base coat for the armour and metallics.

More to follow along with a rebasing update.

Cheers for now.

Back to the Brushes 216

Continuing to work on the Late Romans just now with a horn blower from Foundry now ready for basing. On reflection glad this figure never sold on previous clear outs.

This figure will join a previously painted command figure also from Foundry.
When finished the stand will be used in ADLG. Base as always from Warbases.

More work in progress to follow shortly

Cheers for now.

Back to the Brushes 215

In between painting entries for this year's Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge there has been a large rebasing project underway.

Here is the first unit in the early stages of rebasing including six newly painted troops to fill out the ranks.

The figures are all from Gripping Beast with Little Big Men to complete the look.

When finished these will be shown in the Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge.

Cheers for now.

With a Rebel Yell 12

Painted in 2018 and finally based and ready for action in 2019 these casualty stands and command stand are from Friekorps and Old Glory's Blue Moon range.

Needing to go back to using the main camera rather than the phone cam, however its a time thing and everything can be done on the device. Time can be daunting just now.

Some what more daunting is the twenty odd stands of foot at the back of the painting desk. Will get there soon.

Cheers for now.

Back to the Brushes 214

Haven't been updating on work in progress of late and really should be doing so more often.

This year has seen a major rebasing project start with all the Late Romans and allies being rebased for ADLG.

As expected this has created a few gaps here and there which has resulted in the following.

Heavy infantry from Gripping Beast that are so very nearly complete. A bit of work on the trousers and the spears and its off to the basing queque. These six troopers will complete two stands of heavy swordsmen protected that are core units for the Late Romans.

Next up is a Hun horse archer from
Gripping Beast. This figure will complete a stand of light cavalry bow giving five of these once the rebasing is done. Whilst fragile units these are key to the Hun army and will stand as allies in the Late Romans and Goths.

Next, a mounted horn blower from Foundry which ironically have tried to sell on several occassions and failed to do so. This figure will join one of the command stands currently being worked on.

Three more figures from Foundry above that will be used in a similar fashion as the Gripping Beast figures above; to fill the gaps left over in the rebasing. These are well on their way to being ready for basing although there will be a slight delay as the transfers for their shields are on their way.

Lastly, a composite unit with riders from Gripping Beast and armoured horses from Footsore Miniatures. These are one of three units of these on the painting table at present.

The finished figures will be shown as part of the IX Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge later this month.

Back to the Brushes 213

A work in update on some 28mm Undead figures from Mithril Miniatures and Citadel.

Top left is a Mithril Miniatures Wight. Base coated white then painted with Technical paint Nighthaunt Gloom. The dried figure has then been worked upto what you see using the Gloom paint mixed with white. Bloody marvelous effect can be obtained here. Citadel really need to expand this range as this really does give good results.

Top right and bottom left shows two Citadel wights. Both have been painted using layers. The top figure using Vallejo Game Colours Scruvy, Jade and Foul Green with a final touch of white added in. The second wight has been using Foundry Teal AB & C again with some white added as a final highlight.

Lastly some Citadel Skeleton base coated in Army Painter Skeleton Bone waiting for the next stage of painting.

Some other pieces are nearing completion and will hopefully be shown in the Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge next week.

Hmmm, some of the pics could be better.

Cheers for now.

Back to the Brushes 212

With the Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge IX almost at the half way and only 4.8% (24 points) recorded its time to get the brushes out.

As always in the Challenge the focus has changed and this time back to the Late Romans. It would seem the Hoplites will have to wait again.

Originally started for WAB at 500 and then increasing upto 1500 points. Then as is the way of gaming, trends change and Impetus was in vogue and now its Art de la Guerre. Each time has meant a rebasing project and this has caused extra painting for the first army. Above are an additional six heavy foot and a horse for a command stand.

There will be more to follow and a concerted effort to get some points on the board as there is a lot to paint in the next seven weeks.

Cheers for now
