Sunne in Splendour 6

The first completed figures of 2024 and recent entry into the AHPC XIV.

Two bases of Scurrours for my growing ADLG Lancastrian force. The figures are from Museum Miniatures and fit in well enough with the bulk of the army that are from Gladiator Miniatures.

The red in the pictures isn't that far away from the red on the miniatures and now realising that it is a step too far and into the realms of garishly bright. It will help me remember that they are on the gaming table in ADLG and other games.

The red and dark grey (Black) are to represent the colours of the Percy's; although in the Wars of the Roses fiction that I am currently reading, the Percy's are described as wearing blue and yellow, not red and black. I am not a scholar of this period so any thoughts or info on this would be appreciated.

These were entered into the AHPC XIV as a Historical entry (941.2)

Looking forward to posting more from this period sooner rather than later.

Cheers for now

The Sunne in Splendour 5

Recently started a Wars of the Roses retinue for Lion Rampant and similar style skirmish games.

Following in the footsteps of the DBA army painted a couple of year back these will have Lancastrian colours and will be under the colours of Roos.

The figures are from Perry Miniatures metal ranges and paint exceptionally well. The detail is clear and crisp with not too much flash if any.

There are another three figures on the painting table at the moment and these will completed later this week.

Whilst being painted for skirmish gaming, the use of sabot bases will enable these figures to have a bit more use for larger games as well.

The next group for this retinue will have a darker approach to the painting of their armour; check out Medieval on Netflixs for ideas.

Cheers for now.

Back to the Brushes 363

It has been a bitty week on the hobby front whilst contending with the dread lurgy. Not had a cold in nearly two years and you quickly forget the joys that they bring you whilst to do your best to go about everyday life.

So, when the energy levels have been high enough, silver has been the colour of choice:

The figures are from Perry Miniatures Wars of the Roses metal range and once cleaned up are really great sculpts that are pleasure to paint.

At this moment they are being painted just because they where there, however, they will most likely end up as a part of a Lion Rampant retinue for Lancastrian forces.

The finished figures will be included in this years AHPC XIII tally.

Will be painting some smaller versions in 15mm shortly to boost the DBA army towards ADLG size, but more on that later.

Cheers for now

The Sunne In Splendour 4

Started towards the beginning of this year and finally based last week, another command stand for the Lancastrians in Wars of the Roses for DBA and ADLG

Both figures are from Gladiator Miniatures and can't remember who the colours represent at the moment.

Will be picking up on this project in this year's Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge assuming that it happens. Curt does have another project on his mind at present.

Hope that you found this interesting.

Cheers for now.

Back to the Brushes 270

With only one painting session to go until the end of this 30 Days and 30 Miniatures Painting Challenge to go; how close to the finish line are things looking?

Close, very close...

First up is a command stand from Warlord Games Caesarian Roman range. This is the final command stand for this army in ADLG if played at 200 points; not so sure that will happen in 28mm however, never say never.

Next is another command stand from another Roman army; The Late Roman army this time. The standard bearer and the poor bloody infantry man have been painted for this stand, the commander was painted about 18 years ago.

Keeping with the theme of command stands here is another one finished in this challenge; this time for the Wars of the Roses in 15mm.

Whilst on the subject of wars on this fair land, here are two Norman from Wargames Foundry. After over 35 years in production these are still great figures for the Dark Ages in general. There will be more from this range later in the year.

The Anglo Saxons were a Dark Age culture that lived in Middengeard (Old English) which translates to Midgard (Old Norse) and Tolkien adapted this to Middle Earth. Tall and proud in Middle Earth are the Men of Gondor, descendants of the Numenoreans who fought in the Last Alliance of Elves and Men. Now as their strength fades the Men of Gondor fight for survival and here is one of their veterans ready to defend his homeland.

Normally, these pics would be centred on the page however Blogger is having one of its little moods and obviously knows what is required better than I do. Such is life.

This means that the current total now sits at 22 figures completed in this challenge detailed as below

28mm Infantry: 19 figures
28mm Cavalry: 1 figure
15mm Cavalry: 2 figures

All to paint for now.

Hope that you found this interesting.

Cheers for now

The Sunne in Splendour 3

Another couple of bases worth of Lancastrians for ADLG from Gladiator Miniatures painted over the last few months.

These have been painted to fit in with existing retinues from the DBA army completed in the AHPC X earlier this year. Originally Gladiator Miniatures then sold by Black Hat Miniatures and now available from Fighting 15s. The life cycle of a miniature is a varied thing as these came through eBay to here.

Horizontal bills and spears are a pain when it comes the gaming table however they do look the part.

More finished work pictures to follow shortly.

Cheers for now.

The Sunne in Splendour 2

Where are the weeks going? Is this the start of week seven or eight; not sure anymore and they are all becoming one in lockdown.

A small post this time round consisting of 4 15mm War of the Roses figures from Gladiator Miniatures.

These are part of the additional elements required to take the DBA army up to the level of an ADLG army. The first of quite a few additional bases especially of foot.

These will be retinue billmen in game terms and part of Oxford's command in the overall scheme of things.

Hope that you found this interesting.

Stay safe and cheers for now.

Back to the Brushes 258

As the last week of the AHPC X starts the chaos catches up. No border closures here although this may effect future gaming events in the UK.

Last work in progress picture this side of the end of the challenge.

Shown above are Late Roman archers from Gripping Beast, Greek skirmishers from Foundry, a Crusader also from Gripping Beast and bill-men from Gladiator Miniatures.

The skirmishers are done and the archers are next to be finished.

Cheers for now

Back to the Brushes 255

Starting another part of this year's
Challenge by blocking in the flesh tone on the first batch of Xyston 15mm Spartans for DBA and ADLG.

Very nice sculpts with great detail; will update you on the progress with the separate shield and spears in the future.

Next to these is another stand worth of knights and one of cavalry for the Lancasterians in War of the Roses. These again are for DBA and ADLG.

Quite a few odds and sods to get based and photographed as well, so there will be some finished work in the near future too.

Cheers for now

Back to the Brushes 253

First miniatures of the year waiting to have their bases finished. Looking at the forecast for the weather this weekend shouldn't be an issue to get this done.

Not sure if the DAK are aware that Buckingham's bombard might not be that effective against AFVs. Would be an interesting study though.

Cheers for now.

Back to the Brushes 252

Christmas has come and gone, a decade ended and a New Year started alongside a new decade. However, all of this was missed here as I was laid low by the dread man flu.

The last two nights have seen the first real painting for this year's Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge X and as you can see below there are some different things on the go already.

First up, DAK in 20mm from SHQ. These are being block painted then washed with either soft or strong tone ink from Army Painter.

Picked these up at Carronade a long time ago now for next to nothing.

Next, Perry Ashigaru for Lion Rampant in 28mm. Detailed figures that so far have been a pleasure to paint. The test figure on the far right is further along is a good guide to how the finished unit will look. The Samurai for this warband will be in a brighter red to show them off on the table. The inspiration for these came from the charge Li Naomasa's Red Devils at the Battle of Sekigahara.

Next is the beginnings of a 15mm War of the Roses army for both DBA and ADLG. The army will be Lancasterian and at this stage very little is known about this period other than the names of a few battles.

Last up are some Romans from Foundry and Gripping Beast. The Foundry are all Late Romans for command stands. The Gripping Beast include Caesarian Romans, Late Romans and four Romano Brits.

Cheers for now
