Back to the Brushes 258

As the last week of the AHPC X starts the chaos catches up. No border closures here although this may effect future gaming events in the UK.

Last work in progress picture this side of the end of the challenge.

Shown above are Late Roman archers from Gripping Beast, Greek skirmishers from Foundry, a Crusader also from Gripping Beast and bill-men from Gladiator Miniatures.

The skirmishers are done and the archers are next to be finished.

Cheers for now

Reconquista 6

The first of two stands of Christian Mercenary crossbowmen for the Almohads.

The figures are from Gripping Beast's Norman range and whilst old are still good miniatures for their period.

These figures are very versatile and will see use as Normans, First Crusaders, Christian Spanish and Mercenaries for all of the above and more.

More of these soon.

Back to the Brushes 197

Six days into this 30days30miniatures painting challenge and so far only three figures have been completed.

This time another stand of archers for the  Ayyubid Arab army in 15mm.

The figures are from Essex Miniatures and paint well.

Hope to have a good painting session over the next few nights to increase the tally of completed figures.

Day 6

Figures completed 3

Back to the Brushes 195

The penultimate day of this 30 days 30 miniatures painting challenge sees three more Mamluks ready for basing.

The figures are from Black Hat Miniatures formerly Gladiator Miniatures range of Mamluks. Easy figures to paint with enough detail to cause interest yet not too much to over load the miniature at this scale.

Day 29

Figures completed 28

There will be a final completed stand of cavalry for tomorrow's deadline and a picture of everything completed in this challenge.

Cheers for now

Back to the Brushes 192

Seem to have lost a few days this week and now at day 17. Shown below is a stand of Bedouin cavalry for the Ayyubid ADG army currently being worked on.

Not sure which manufacturer these are from however they are smaller than the Black Hat Miniatures being painted as the Ghulam cavalry.

Here is the painting table after the halfway point. Strangly its more cluttered than on day one.

Day 17

Figures completed 15

Cheers for now.

How far Jerusalem?

The start of a new series of posts for this blog detailing the progress on several related projects in different scales.

Firstly, will be the Ayyubid army of Saladin for ADG in 15mm. Figures being a mix of Black Hat Miniatures (Gladiator Miniatures), Essex and Minifigs.

Next will follow the Late Crusaders again in 15mm with the figures coming from Black Hat Miniatures.

In between both of these will be some Crusaders and Saracens in 28mm. Undecided yet which way to go with these although there is a fair chance that this will involve a military order steeped in both history and myth.

The title of these posts is linked to the central theme and location for the armies and a hommage to an old favourite by Magnum:

More on this shortly

Cheers for now.

Losing that Gaming Mojo 4

Recently, on the gaming front an introductory game of SAGA: Crescent and the Cross was played.

First thoughts are the Moors won't stand up against the Crusaders and Military Orders heavy cavalry. Perhaps this is won't be the case, perhaps it will and as the figures are "generic" they may morph into other factions in time.

There was a few raised eyes when Impaling Spears and The Moors Gold were used. Impaling Spears certainly stalled the Knights charge and took a few of them down too. However, the Crusaders and Military Orders had the edge on the night and the game was a victory for the Crusaders. There was a comment that the rules are written to favour the Christian factions, hopefully further games will show that there is balance within them and this is not the case.

During a conversation with a friend the other day the expression "there are gamers who paint and painters who game" was used. This got the grey matter turning round and the question is which are you? Here it is a painter who games.

Cheers for now.
