Pax Britannia 1

The legends that surround events in Britain after the Legions left are many and varied.

Whilst not the first figures completed for this army, they are the first to be photographed as such. They are also the only two stands of light cavalry in the army.

The figures are from the War and Empire range from Forged in Battle.

Also shown is the first command stand including a Christian priest and suitably imposing equites as the main figure.

There will be light infantry coming soon once the flocking is done.

Cheers for now.

Back to the Brushes 395

A little update on the Romano British javelin men.

The front two stands of Psiloi are ready for varnishing and basing and the larger stands to the rear aren't that far behind.

Romano British Javelineers in 15mm

At this point there are no immediate plans for the shields beyond the yellow ochre already used. This colour fits in well with the muted bieges and greens used for the and unifies the figures in the stand. In reality, there would probably be less unification in the Dark Ages however at this scale it suits purposes well.

Next up in this project will be the start of the ponies.

Cheers for now

Back to the Brushes 389

A bit more painting done the other day, this time some Dark Ages skirmishers from Forged in Battle.

Dark Ages slingers 15mm Miniatures

Part of a larger project these Romano Brits will also be of use in several different DBA forces.

Cheers for now

Imperium Sine Fine 34

Recently completed as a part of the AHPC XIII these Equite Cataphractii from War and Empire will soon be clumping  their way across tabletops  in ADLG, DBA and Hail Caesar.

Each stand has a fair wee heft to them with the fourth horse fitting to each stand, even if this did involve a less than linear final appearance to the base.

The figures are good sculpts and slightly smaller than the other cavalry figures in the growing force for Early Imperial Rome in 15mm. One day there may even be a start made on the 28mm figures for the same army.

Next up there will be other cavalry units for this army.

Cheers for now.

Cataphractii update

The next series of pics show some progress with the three stands of War and Empire Cataphract figures.

The horses on two bases are now complete along with the bases being textured in advance of flocking.

Will be moving on to the riders later this evening and finishing off the last four horses. The aim is to complete by this weekend.

Back to the Brushes 365

An update on Roman Cataphracts for ADLG - a bit of base manipulation to sort out four horses per base. This is possible as the War and Empire (Forged in Battle) figures are a wee bit smaller than some of their other 15mm counter-parts.

The armoured horses so far - those painted all started prior to the  beginning of AHPC XIII - another six to get into the painting queue.

The riders have been added to see how things look with four horses and there us room enough without cramming them in. Will be spending a bit of time on these shortly.

The horse head to the left of the pic is from a PSC 15mm horse that is much bigger than the War and Empire figure. Scale creep, its a bugger but not much you can do about it.

Cheers for now

Imperium Sine Fine 27

Recently completed and posted to the AHPC XI this post has a mixture of supporting troop types for an ongoing project in 15mm: Early Imperial Romans.

Unlike many projects this was initially down to luck. The luck being, getting a PSC Ultra Cast EIR box set off evil Bay at a very reasonable price. Then luck followed luck as a good number of Corvus Belle EIR figures came up on the same again at reasonable prices, allowing the force to be expanded to cover DBA and an ADLG army too, well nearly.

Making a conscious effort with this army to paint it by troop types starting with light infantry, in this case archers, slingers, javelin-men and a pair of scorpions to finish off the shooty death section. So without any more rambling on here are the finished figures:

Eight javelin armed skirmisher from the War and Empire range produced by Forged in Battle. Painted in drab colours to mark their status as lower classed troops.

The bases are textured using Geek Gaming Scenics Base ready Patch Plains mixed then flocked with 2mm static grass to add colour and interest. This is a new process for 15mm figures and cuts out the need to glue sand, ink wash then dry brush the sand before flocking; its quicker and gives a good finish once over flocked.

Next are eight slingers that are also from Forged in Battle. Both sets sit well beside the PSC 15mm figures if a little chunkier.

The first of the PSC Ultra Cast figures with six skirmishing archers covering a scorpion and two crew.

Once painted and at a distance there is no way of telling if these are metal or not. That is until they are picked up as there is practically no weight to them. That said the figures paint up well and provide a good basis for the core of an Early Imperial Roman army. It's a pity that the infantry and cavalry are only available in the boxed sets.

Below is a group picture of the army so far with figures painted pre December 21st 2020 including two stands of three archers, three additional stands of skirmishing archers and a second scorpion. These are not included in the points total below.

Both the archers above and the scorpion below have been painted before the start date and are shown pre-black edge painting.

So, there are a total of twenty four foot figures and 1 crewed weapon in 15mm giving a start to the points total of 52 or 8.67% of the target total of 600 points. Now it's time to start prepping the auxilia infantry with 38 figures waiting in the wings.

Hope that you find these of interest and stay safe!
