Imperium Sine Fine 33

Recently completed for the AHPC XIII these 15mm Early Imperial Romans from Plastic Soldier Company and Corvus Belli have been great fun to paint.

The supporting Saggitarii figures in the rear rank are from Essex Miniatures and their older sculpts hold up well against the newer and chunker legionnaires at the front.
Shield transfers from Little Big Men's superb range

The legionnaires are double ranked for ADLG basing although this will be getting adopted as standard for 15mm figures on future projects.

The finished figures will join the ranks for an ADLG army as well as use in DBA and Hail Caesar in the future.

More finished figures to follow shortly.

Cheers for now.

Imperium Sine Fine 32

The Early Imperial Romans are still struggling forward in rough ground; typical deployment error with heavy infantry here - drawn towards the mud and seldom get out.  The Legionnaires are from Plastic Soldier Company

The rear rank have been completed as a part of the AHPC XIII and have been based in support of their command group.

The shield transfers are from Little Big Men and whilst fiddly at this scale are worth the time and effort to set a unit off.

Auxilia archers are an option in ADLG  for legions so as there are figures spare...decided to paint them for this very purpose. They'll also double as additional light infantry archers if needed. The auxilia archers are from Essex miniatures are slightly finer in scale than the PSC figures.

Currently working on more Roman archers to complete the full array of options in the list - basically more units of the same.

Cheers for now.

Back to the Brushes 364

Pushed on through the veil of a cold to continue with two very different sets of Romans:

Republican Roman Triarii from Gripping Beast for Age of Hannibal and 15mm Early Imperial Romans from Plastic Soldier Company and Essex Miniatures for ADLG.

Still really like the Gripping Beast Republicans although many now prefer Victrix and Aventine for this period.

The temporary hold - shields and transfers - on the EIR has now been resolved and will be looking to get some progress on these this week for future AHPC XII posts.

Cheers for now.

Back to the Brushes 361

An update on the Early Imperial Roman legions from Corvus Belli. The figures with shields attached are Ultracast from Plastic Soldier Company and the unshielded figures are metals from Corvus Belli.

The colour for the lorica segmenta is Army Painter Platemail and this was used the undercoat by spraying. It is a first time painting this method and so far all good.

More updates to follow in 2023.

Cheers for now

30 Days 30 Miniatures - November 2021 Round Up

A late round up picture from November's 30 Days Painting Challenge.

In total 16 figures completed last month. Slipping backwards again however, the AHPC XII will end this year and start next year in a glorious fashion.

First session was last night and have started on the Carthaginians for SAGA and Fallschrimjager for Chain of Command. Both in 28mm. Blocking in fleshtones for humans and horses.

Pictures to follow shortly.

Cheers

Back to the Brushes 322

There goes September as we move into October and the last quarter of 2021 and another 30 days 30 Miniatures Painting challenge has ended.

September's painting

A few different periods and scales here this month as well as picking up on stalled projects.

From left to right there are the following:

1 x 28mm ruined classic column from Templar Wargames

1 x 28mm Norman archer from Gripping Beast

3 x 28mm Moor archers from Gripping Beast

4 x 28mm Fallschrimjager snipers from Warlord Games (Centre) and Artizan Design

9 x 15mm Early Imperial Roman Legionnaires from Plastic Soldier Company

This takes the total for September to 20 completed figures including the building for Warbases. Short of the total however, there is a lot sitting so near finished that October will be a full on month.

30 Days 30 Miniatures November 2020

In the end it turned out to be a very productive 30 Days Challenge as shown below

Complete in this challenge included the following

  • 16 x 15mm Spartan Infantry - Xyston
  • 11 x 15mm Early Imperial Roman Infantry - Plastic Soldier Company
  • 8 x 28mm Caesarian Romans Infantry - Wargames Foundry

The total for the 30 Days is 48 figures

This month's challenge will be announced tomorrow and will be a little different.

Hope that you found this interesting

Back to the Brushes 291

Several posts ago I mentioned that I would be returning to Romans and Prussians.

Well, one outta two ain't bad with the first Early Imperial Roman Auxilia archers from Plastic Soldier Company in soft cast plastic or Ultra cast as they call it.

The original figures were from the Corvus Belli range in 15mm and have reproduced well in this new medium.

There is a bit of flash on these, no more than you would get if in metal but I'd say harder to remove and best done with a new blade on your craft knife.

The figures fit well with the War and Empire range from Forged in Battle but stay clear of Blue Moon's EIR Romans as they tower over the PSC figures.

One other thing to mention - check the box contents throughly against what you need as there are no plans from PSC at present to release additional packs of legionnaires or auxilia outside of the core box. If you need more you either match in lead figures or buy another box.

The core box is good value for money however additional figures are needed for a DBA  army.

As the month is drawing to an end the 30 Days 30 Miniatures Painting Challenge is drawing to a close. These will add to the running total as below:

3 x 15mm EIR Infantry
13 x 18mm SYW Bavarian Infantry

So 16 figures done, 14 sitting in the wings to be completed by the 2nd December.

Hope this has been of interest to you.

Stay safe and cheers for now
