30 Days 30 Miniatures Painting Challenge - May 2021 Round up

May passed by in a flash leaving this 30 Days 30 Miniatures six figures short of the finish line. To say that there was a lot going on is an understatement however, that's passed now and its time to rise from the metaphorical ashes.

The pictures below show a mix of both scales and periods; starting with a few more terrain pieces for 28mm WW2. No idea who the manufacturer is for these which is a pity as rather like the single man sandbag emplacements.

The greying hut is from Hovel's ACW range although it could be used for any North American conflict from the French Indian War onwards. This is a part of a small farm set with the barn being the next piece to be painted.

Whilst this month, as in May, there have been no 28mm figures completed a few have been getting worked on in the sidelines. This leaves the 15mm figures from Museum Miniatures and Gladiator Games.

The Mongols from Museum Miniatures are the first completed figures for well, Mongol armies across the period of the Mongol Empire. Starting here with the first bow armed light cavalry and medium cavarly.

Next is the start of a second DBA army for the Late Crusader period and instead of representing a famous or infamous military order this time the figures are being painted for the Knights of Jerusalem.

Still to find suitable decals for the shields etc for this army; not sure if there is a cross surround by 4 other crosses out there. If not will have to compromise with just the one.

Although May and for that matter June have passed in a whirlwind did manage to complete 24 different miniatures.  Not close to that figure for June yet.

Cheers for now

30 Days 30 Miniatures Painting Challenge - April 2021 Round up

April has come and gone and there has been some painting done. Perhaps not as much as planned but then who would have thought the weather would have been so good?

A mixture of periods and scales were painted including the following:

16 x 15mm Arab or Muslim Cavalry including 12 Museum Miniatures (rear and middle rows) and 3 from Minifigs.

8 x 6mm Dark Ages infantry from Baccus for use in a Norman DBA army

5 x 15mm terrain pieces for ACW games from Hovels. The cludgie and hay piles with a barn, hen house and fencing to follow.

1 x 25mm road block from Sarissa (think) in MDF with another 4 or 5 to follow.

This month has already started well with a few pieces of scatter terrain completed last night. Pics to  follow later in the week.

Hope you found this interesting.

Stay safe

Back to the Brushes 277

Continue the theme from the last post here are several more finished terrain pieces.

First up is a haystack English Civil War style from Hovells in 15mm.

Next, a shrine or altar piece from Grand Manner purchased when you could get bare resin from them.

The next two pictures are of a 15mm farm house for American Civil War based games. This is also from Hovells in 15mm.

The final piece is again from Hovells, this time from their 20mm Battlefield range and is a doocot from the farmhouse set, which will follow shortly. Whilst sold for use in WW2 based games, this piece and the others in the set could easily be used for earlier conflicts as well.

This takes this month's 30 days 30 miniatures painting challenge to

Day 19: 4 resin terrain pieces, for a running to total of 6 finished figures.

Hope that you found this interesting.

Cheers for now.

With a Rebel Yell 13

Confederate infantry advancing from Old Glory. The command stand was painted earlier this year.

The other five bases were painted during the first 30 days 30 Miniatures Painting Challenge or was it the second.

The Old Glory figures have great character amd paint up well. There will be more of these sooner and later.

Cheers for now.

Back to the Brushes 245

Yesterday was the last day of the current 30 Days 30 Miniatures Painting Challenge; which earlier this week looked like it was not going to happen.

A last push at the finish line made the following possible:

First up are Confederates from Old Glory. These 15mm figures are animated and characterful; just what you need for charging the Union lines.

Next, an old mid nineties skeleton from Citadel or Marauder Miniatures. A great figure to paint, perfect for finishing off a painting challenge.

Completed this challenge:

Day 30 - 34 figures completed.

Cheers for now

With a Rebel Yell 12

Painted in 2018 and finally based and ready for action in 2019 these casualty stands and command stand are from Friekorps and Old Glory's Blue Moon range.

Needing to go back to using the main camera rather than the phone cam, however its a time thing and everything can be done on the device. Time can be daunting just now.

Some what more daunting is the twenty odd stands of foot at the back of the painting desk. Will get there soon.

Cheers for now.

30 Days 30 Miniatures Painting Challenge Round up 4

This challenge was indeed that with mixed motiviation for the hobby in general this past 5 - 6 weeks.

The final challenge came this week with being away with no internet access or 4G. The feeling of isolation lasted for about an evening then the digital detox started. Recommend it to all - disconnect for a week it is rewarding. It also meant however that this post is late, the shame!

So, back to the challenge and yes it was a success with more than thirty figures being completed in time, just mind you.

Two 28mm figures for SAGA or any Dark Ages skirmish game in general. A Gripping Beast Viking on the left and a Foundry Norman on the right.

A Macedonian phalanx in 6mm with 27 figures on a 40 x 30mm.

A mix of stands for ACW gaming with figures from Freikorps (centre) and Old Glory on the outsides. The single figures are for break through markers and the others are casualty markers.

Here is the group shot of everything together; 37 figures in total including the terrain piece.

6mm: 27 infantry

15mm: 7 infantry

28mm: 2 infantry and 1 terrain objective marker.

Cheers for now

Saturday, 15 September 2018

With a Rebel Yell 11

Recently completed command stand, out of ammo markers and a casualty marker for cavalry are shown below.

The command stand and out of ammo markers are from Old Glory's Blue Moon range.

The casualty markers are from Freikorps and were great to paint. Casualty markers often prompt the thought of getting and painting a few "flats" for the fun of it. Maybe someday...

Thanks for visiting.

Cheers for now.

#30days30miniatures painting challenge - summing up

Thirty days have come and gone and the painting challenge has been a great motivation to complete a good number of figures that have been gathering dust on the painting table.

Overall, the total number of figures completed came in at 55 broken down as follows:

6mm -  20 cavalry

15mm - 21 foot

28mm - 14 foot

The 6mm figures were all started and completed during the challenge. The 15mm was a mixture of part painted and unpainted figures and all of the 28mm figures had previously been started.

Here is the painting desk at the start, midway and at the finish.

Then past half way

At the finish line

This last picture shows all the painted figures together in a group shot. More detailed pictures will follow on themed posts shortly.

The main motivator in this challenge has been to clear some figures from the painting table. However, as you can see there are still many more figures to complete; so what next? Well continue the 30days30miniatures painting challenge this time however there will be both a theme and a personal challenge. This is one in the same thing here as the challenge this time will be to complete - not necessarily base - 30 pieces of cavalry in various scales. The reason why? I dread painting horses and yet when finished they are so rewarding.

So take up your brushes, pick a theme and paint 30 figures in 30 days! You know that you want to.

Cheers for now
