Back to the Brushes 410

In between base coating Bundeswehr armour in reflective green stole some time to add some colour to these little stingers

An assortment of anti-tank guns for D.A.K forces in 10mm. All from Pendraken with recon vehicles waiting to join them soon.

Back to the Brushes 409

A couple sessions base coating a few different AFV for the Team Yankee Bundeswehr.

M113 Observer and M109 Field Artillery zug

Have started the black gray camouflage pattern on the M113 observer vehicle and will continue on with M109s next.

Marder 1 zug

For the planned starter force only three Marders are needed however; it makes more sense to paint the full zug in the one go.

Leopard 2A5 zug

Will update progress on these and a few other side projects shortly.

Seven days to the Rhine 1

Recently shown as my first entry to this year's Painting Challenge and it's something a bit different. Well painting German AFV isn't that new, however the scale and period are: 15mm Cold War

The Cold War is a new period here, although having grown up during the seventies and eighties under the shadow of a naval base in Scotland there are elements that seemed all too real. When deciding to paint these models, I wanted to recreate that shadow, to show AFVs that have left their bases and are own their own.

The models are from Battlefront's Team Yankee range and show Leopard 1s in NATO three colour camouflage. The first set of pictures show the HQ section of the Panzer Kompanie, followed by the first of two panzer zug.

The models have gone through several stages to achieve the look shown:

  • Primed in Vallejo NATO green primer
  • Base coat in reflective green
  • Camouflage colours added in Black Gray and Flat Earth
  • Dry brushed with Iraqi Sand
  • Gloss varnished
  • Apply decals
  • Gloss varnish decals to seal
  • Oil wash with AK Interactive NATO camouflage wash.
  • Cotton bud wipe with mineral spirits
  • Matt varnish  - two coats

Applied a heavier than usual coat of the oil wash to build on the shadows within the model and removed the wash with a drier cotton bud to leave move wash on the model. Didn't see these as coming straight from the forecourt of your local tank dealership.

Hope that everyone enjoys this post and already working on more for this period and others for future posts.

Cheers for now

Back to the Brushes 408

Below shows the start of the next phase in the Bundeswehr force for Team Yankee; IFV Marder I.

Currently, the Marders are only primed with NATO green at this point prior to base coating with Vallejo Reflective Green.

Keeping the theme of AFV going but changing period and scale to WWII and 10mm. This means long needed return to a stalled project: D.A.K for O Group.

Included in the picture above (from left to right are) 2 of Sf Kdz 221 & 3 Sf Kdz 222. Currently in their base panzer gray colour prior to being re-coloured for North Africa.

More to follow soon.

Cheers for now.

Back to the Brushes 407

The beginning of the end for the first models in 2026.

The left hand Leopard has been oil washed whilst the right hand is still in the base colours. The removal of the main part of the wash will finish the AFV apart from a double coat of Matt varnish to seal.

The remainder of the zug are in the sidings waiting on their decals being applied.

The Marders are in the process of being primed and based coated in reflective green.

Cheers for now

The next steps whilst prepping the Marder 1s will be:

  • Over paint tracks with flat earth
  • Gloss varnish the hull and turrets
  • Apply decals
  • Dry brush with Iraqi Sand
  • Apply and remove oil washes
  • Finish with Matt varnish

Back to the Brushes 404

Fresh start for 2026.

That is the base coat of Vallejo Reflective Green down on this zug of Leopard 1s for Team Yankee

This is the start of a Bundeswehr force for Cold War games around either the Team Yankee or Centag rule systems.

The rumble in the background shows the bits and pieces of two catapults for the Undead in Kings of War. So far, there has been more swearing than flying on these as there were no assemble instructions provided with these digital prints.

Cheers for now.

Happy New Year!

Wishing you hope, peace and good health in the coming months
